Stocks in Australia and Hong Kong slide, other markets gain

SYDNEY, NSW, Australia - Asian stocks were little moved on Monday, in a listless start to the week.

The Australian All Ordinaries was sold off with the key index losing 41.60 points or 0.54 percent to 7,688.30.

In Japan, the Nikkei 225 rose 28.24 points or 0.09 percent to 29,774.11.

The Hang Seng in Hong Kong declined 98.63 points or 0.39 percent to close Monday at 24,951.34.

China's Shanghai Composite edged up 21.71 points or 0.61 percent to 3,582.08..

The U.S. dollar remained firm in the Asian trading zone. The euro drifted down to 1.1266. The British pound traded in a tight range around 1.3437. The Japanese yen inched down to 114.19. The Swiss franc was weaker at 0.9301.

The Canadian dollar was on the softer side, last trading at 1.2644. The Australian and New Zealand dollars were listless at 0.7246 and 0.7003 respectively.
